To achieve Education for All, the current aid system for global education must be improved. There must be a coordinated strategy to remove barriers to education with participation by donor and development countries’ governments, as well as local communities, donors and other stakeholders; open and transparent funding mechanisms; measurable achievements and monitoring tools to track access and quality.
During his campaign, President Obama pledged $2 billion for a multi-lateral (many counties involved), multi-donor mechanism - A Global Fund for Education - to increase global commitment and funding for the achievement of Education for All. Now is the time for the United States to realize this vision and lead the world in achieving universal primary education. We have an opportunity for bold action to stimulate real change.
We encourage you to write President Obama and your members of Congress and urge them to create a multi-lateral Global Fund for Education.
Currently most government funds going into Afghanistan are earmarked for the military and are distributed by the military. Write your member of Congress. Tell her or him to put money into non-military projects in Afghanistan, particularly education. Tell him or her stories about our project and ask her or him to fund U.S. NGOs, like AEI, working in Afghanistan.
